Empowering the Next Generation

Through Art and Education

Art@60 is a meaningful CSR initiative dedicated to empowering Cambodia’s next generation through art, culture, and education. The program celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Cambodia, transforming cultural exchange into lasting social impact.

Through art exhibitions, workshops, and charitable auctions, Art@60 raises funds to support education for underprivileged children in Bavet, Cambodia. We believe that education is the most powerful foundation for sustainable social and economic growth, shaping a brighter future for generations to come across both nations.

This initiative is proudly led by Art Beyond Asia and Angkor Art Gallery, in partnership with the Galilee Foundation. As Singapore-based organizations that have been rooted in Cambodia for nearly a decade, we are deeply committed to giving back to the society that has grown alongside us.

The Education Crisis in Bavet: A Generation Left Behind

Bavet, Cambodia — a thriving hub for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and manufacturing — hides a painful paradox. While factories power economic growth, the children of those same workers are being left behind by a fragile education system.

For thousands of young factory workers, mostly women, low wages and long hours force an impossible choice — work to survive or secure their children’s future. Poverty and migration have pushed education to the margins, creating a generation with limited opportunities.

The Triple Threat to Children’s Learning

Early Learning Gap

With factories neglecting childcare obligations and daycare unaffordable, children miss early education. They enter school unprepared, lacking basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Parental Separation

Many parents migrate for factory work, leaving children with relatives who lack education. This absence of emotional and academic support leads to poor attendance and weak learning outcomes.

The Secondary School Cliff

Although primary enrollment is high, education quality remains low. As poverty deepens, many children drop out to work — repeating the same low-wage cycle as their parents, who often undervalue schooling due to their own illiteracy.
